Discussion points for teachers

  1. Help Fabio find the correct locker. Discuss what his ticket number was and what number would be 1,000 less. Discuss the different plaques and what numbers they each represent. Discuss how to work out the unconventional partitioning.
  2. How far could the third bather have travelled? Discuss what parameters have been given by the other bathers. Discuss which two digits could be used and what their different place value positions could be. This question is open-ended for the children to explore.
  3. How much water would be in the bath if they poured in one thousand litres more? Discuss which digit needs to change to find one thousand more than the given number.
  4. How many times would one thousand litres need to be added to fill the pool back up? Discuss which digit changes every time 1,000 is added. Discuss how many times 1,000 would need to be added to reach the total number.
  5. Help him work out the amounts of liquids he needs to add to the pool to clean the water. Discuss how much water is in the pool. Discuss which digits need to change for each of the liquids according to the instructions.
