Discussion points for teachers

  1. Help Jungle Jim work out which ladybird should come next. Discuss the sequence so far and identify that it is counting forwards. Which number would come next?
  2. Which ladybirds are missing? Discuss how the order has changed and identify which numbers are missing from the sequence.
  3. Is Jungle Jim correct? What mistake did he make? Discuss Jungle Jim’s counting and identify any missing numbers in his sequence.
  4. Which zebra should he move? Discuss the sequence and how it could be corrected so that the zebras are in order. Discuss that it could be either the zebra with eight stripes or the zebra with nine stripes in the wrong place (both are correct).

Optional discussion points:

How could you count from ‘zero’ using the jungle animals?

What other animals have features that we could count?
