Monthly Round Up: September – October 2019

This post has been written by Hannah Saunders

There are 71 days left of term. Five of those will be half term, twenty more are Saturdays and Sundays, which means there are 46 days left, which basically means it’s nearly Christmas! Don’t worry, I’m not going to start talking tinsel and baubles (yet) but just to forewarn you, there is a large contingency of Christmas Superfans here at Classroom Secrets!

I shall also attempt to avoid talking about the B-word…less a small link at the end of this post with some useful stuff about school trips travelling abroad post B-word (with or without a deal).

What I will talk about though are some of the links I’ve posted below.

11 STRATEGIES TO TAKE YOUR TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL

There has been an interesting study that has been conducted by UCL’s Institute of Education, Oxford University and Birkbeck College (University of London) which has started to analyse key factors in teaching effectiveness and how to take it to the next level. They have broken it down into 11 strategies that are relatively simple and could be good targets to include on your Performance Management schedule, propose at whole school improvement plan meetings, or use as targets for any Trainee Teachers you are mentoring.

CLOSING THE GAP FOR GIRLS IN SPORT

Whilst this article may appear to be aimed at KS3 and KS4, we are all aware that enthusing and inspiring a love of things begins both in the early years and through Primary. There are some interesting links to successful initiatives in the article which, again, could help your school (and you) in being proactive and aware of the most up-to-date thinking surrounding PE within the curriculum and wider learning opportunities for young people.
