136

3.How much more would we spend than if I bought a combined ticket?
Discuss the information needed to answer the question – the price of the two tickets together and the combined ticket. Discuss the term ‘more than’.
€0.64

4.How much change we will get from €40?
Do we know any ages already? If both numbers are multiples of 3 and one is 3 years older, what does this tell us? Do we need any other information to work out the answer?
Grandma is 84, Tripp is 27 and Tori is 24. They need 1 x 60 and above ticket and 2 x 20 – 59 tickets. The total price is €39.87. The change is €0.13.

5.How many more animals were killed on Day 2 than Day 1?
Discuss how to create the new information for Day 2 that is needed to solve the calculation: e.g - a table.
2,400 – 1,550 = 850

6.How many of each animal could have been killed on Day 3?
This question is open-ended for children to explore.
Various answers, for example:
1. Lions > bears > giraffes/elephants > hyenas
2. Giraffes and elephants have the same amount
3. The total = 2,000.
Lions – 1,150; Bears – 500; Giraffes – 150/Elephants – 150; Hyenas 50
