1. How much change will she get?
Discuss the steps that are needed in order to work out the change and the strategies the children could use.

2. How much will they save with the offer?
Discuss what the words ‘offer’ and ‘save’ mean in this context. Discuss strategies for working out the difference between the cost of buying the shoes individually and the offer price.

3. What could he have bought?
Discuss the amount Yasin must have spent in order to have got £2 change and the combinations of items he could have bought that cost £8 in total. This question is more open-ended for children to explore.

4. Which coins might she get in her change?
Discuss the amount that Scarlett is going to spend and how to work out her change. Discuss the combinations of coins that could be used to make £4. This question is more open ended for children to explore.
Various answers, for example: 2 x £2 coins, 4 x £1 coins, £2 and 2 x £1 coins.
