  1. Hello,
How long do you recommend for each step?
    Many Thanks

    • Hi, White Rose Maths strongly explain in their guidance that each step is fluid and you should only move onto the next step when your all members of your class have understood the step. They have only provided guidance for 33 weeks of the academic year so if some steps take longer than others, it should be fine as you have 6 weeks or so flexibility. Hope that helps, Sian

  2. How do you use the various question types?

    • Hi, these steps follow the free Scheme of Work provided by White Rose Maths (available for free on TES). The resources that we provide should be used alongside the guidance in the scheme of work.

The Varied Fluency questions are for practising the basic skills needed for that objective. The Problem Solving questions allow children to use the basic skills in a variety of ways and they are not necessarily told which skills they will need. These questions may also recap skills previously learnt in other steps, but not practised in the VF questions for this step. The Reasoning questions give opportunities to explain how a child knows something is correct/incorrect or to explain how they have worked out an answer.

      Hope this helps,
      Sian

  3. Love these. Simple but effective. I really like the fact that they are differentiated and ask the children to explain their thinking.
