Multiplication and Division Consolidation Year 5 resource to help pupils consolidate their understanding of Spring Block 1: Multiplication and Division. It has been designed with a level of questions for Age Related Expectations for Year 5. This resource is themed around a geological expedition to a volcano.
Step 1: Pupils join the Ancient Greeks as they attempt to enter the city of Troy by building the Trojan Horse. Children will help Alexios work out the cost of materials, the number of meals needed to feed the Greek army and use reasoning to find the answer to a number game which two soldiers are playing whilst they hide inside the Trojan Horse.
Step 2-3: Join Alexios, Selene and Orion as they hide inside the Trojan Horse in attempt to rescue the Queen. Children will help the Trojan warriors to work out if they can pull the Trojan Horse across the drawbridge. They will help the king to consider how much food he could buy to feed his soldiers at his celebration banquet. They will then help Alexios, Selene and Orion to work out how many stairs they will climb along with their army, and then to crack the code they need to enter the tower and rescue the queen.
Step 4-5: Selene and Orion have helped to rescue the Queen and are now returning home to Sparta to help train the warriors. Children will help them to calculate how many warriors can go onboard the ship home. They will help the warriors to calculate how much water will be needed for the journey, and then support Selene and Orion to calculate how long it will take them to get home. As the Gods then send a storm in revenge, they will help the warriors to work out how many buckets of water they can pour from the deck back into the sea before they make it home.
