Mathematics Year 5: (5S2) Solve comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in a line graph

Differentiation:

Varied Fluency
Developing Questions to support drawing line graphs. Including one set of data and given scales of 1, 2 or 10 where points fall on marked increments.
Expected Questions to support drawing line graphs. Including one set of data and any scale where most points fall on marked increments. Not all scales may be given.
Greater Depth Questions to support drawing line graphs. Including one set of data and any scale where most points fall between marked increments. Most scales are not given.

Reasoning and Problem Solving
Questions 1, 4 and 7 (Reasoning)
Developing Use knowledge of line graphs to determine whether an appropriate axis scale has been used. Scales are multiples of 2
Expected Use knowledge of line graphs to determine whether an appropriate axis scale has been used. Scales are multiples of 10.
Greater Depth Use knowledge of line graphs to determine whether an appropriate axis scale has been used.

Questions 2, 5 and 8 (Problem Solving)
Developing Complete a line graph to include missing data. Including one set of data and given scales of 1, 2 or 10 where points fall on marked increments.
Expected Complete a line graph to include missing data. Including one set of data and any scale where most points fall on marked increments.
Greater Depth Complete a line graph to include missing data. Including one set of data and any scale where most points fall between marked increments. Scales may not be given.

  2. Could the power point make more use of the term legend? I didn’t realise this was coming up till the marking stage. Many thanks for all your hard work!

    • Hi Kathryn, we’re glad you love our resources! 🙂
We have made the decision not to use the term ‘legend’ in our resources as the term is not used in the National Curriculum or by the NCETM so we have kept it in line with those sources. Sorry for any inconvenience.

  3. I’ve recently paid for this subscription after trialling the free lessons. I found preparing interactive whiteboard slides and questions for each of the White Rose steps was taking me hours so the £45 sounded like it was worthwhile, although it seems you only have 1 of the WR steps for this unit rather than the 6 steps on White Rose. Can you provide these asap please, as most Year 5 teachers will need them next week. Thanks!

    • Hi, the reason for this is that we are currently making the resources. Steps 1 and 3 are just in the final stages of proofreading and they will be uploaded tomorrow. The other 3 steps will be going through the proofreading process next week and will be online as soon as they are ready. Sian
