This is a free scheme of work for Year 5 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. This resource is the second block in the teaching sequence and includes 6 small steps with guidance for teaching. It is designed to be used in conjunction with your English curriculum and allows you to cover the Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation objectives from the Year 5 National Curriculum.

Devices to build cohesion within a paragraph [for example, then, after that, this, firstly]

Link ideas across paragraphs using adverbials of time [for example, later], place [for example, nearby] and number [for example, secondly] or tense choices [for example, he had seen her before]

English Year 4: (4G1.5) Choosing nouns or pronouns appropriately for clarity and cohesion and to avoid repetition
