Goodnight Mister Tom Chapter 22 Comprehension

Goodnight Mister Tom Chapter 22 Comprehension

This Goodnight Mister Tom Chapter 22 Comprehension for Whole Class Guided Reading includes differentiated questions and activities based on the twenty-second chapter of the novel by Michelle Magorian. We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In this chapter, Will is struggling to deal with Zach’s sudden death. He avoids places that remind him of Zach, such as the Littles’ cottage. Carrie is also struggling as she feels lonely and isolated, both at school and at home. She wants to talk to Will about Zach but he shuts down every time she brings him up. At one of his art lessons, Geoffrey asks him to draw a picture of two friends laughing and explains it is him and a friend who died at war. The picture reminds Will of himself and Zach and causes Will to finally come to terms with Zach’s death. When he returns home, he refers to Tom as ‘Dad’, which makes Tom extremely happy. Will decides to learn how to ride Zach's bike. When he finally manages to do it, he imagines Zach standing next to him and has a conversation with him. Will takes on part of Zach’s personality to help keep him alive in his memory.
