Discussion points for teachers

1. Help Ray and Oceana to open the chest by solving the multiplication problems to reveal the unlock code.
Discuss working out the three steps of the problem using the three times table.
Number 1 = 24; Number 2 = 12; Number 3 = 45

2. How many sweets could there be in 3 packets?
Discuss working through each of the steps in the problem to establish which two numbers could be the total amount of sweets per pack and then multiply by three. This question is open ended for the children to explore.
Various answers, for example: 60, 66, 72, 78 or 84.

3. How much money will Oceana need to go on her favourite amusement three times?
Discuss working out three lots of £2 and three lots of 50p.
£7 and 50p

4. If Rays spends £6 and 30p on 3 games, what is the price of one game?
Discuss dividing the total cost by 3 to give the price of one game.
£2 and 10p

5. Help Ray and Oceana win their free ride.
Discuss what Oceana means. Add together 3 + 1 + 2 = 6, which is in the three times table, so 312 is a multiple of 3.
