Mathematics Year 3: (3C8) Solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division, including positive integer scaling problems and correspondence problems in which n objects are connected to m objects

Differentiation:

Varied Fluency
Developing Questions to support using the 3 times table. Using arrays and equal groups of 3 (up to x 5).
Expected Questions to support using the 3 times table. Using pictorial representations and abstract concepts (up to x 12).
Greater Depth Questions to support using the 3 times table. Using abstract concepts, (beyond x12) using their knowledge of the times table up to 12 x 3.

Reasoning and Problem Solving
Questions 1, 4 and 7 (Problem Solving)
Developing Counting in 3s (up to x5) to find a way through a maze.
Expected Using multiples of 3 (up to x12) to find a way through a maze.
Greater Depth Using multiples of 3 (beyond x 12 using known times tables facts) to find a way through a maze.

Questions 2, 5 and 8 (Reasoning)
Developing Using knowledge of multiples of 3 (up to x5) to reason about common misconceptions.
Expected Using knowledge of multiples of 3 (up to x12) to reason about common misconceptions.
Greater Depth Using knowledge of multiples of 3 (beyond x12 using known times tables facts) to reason about common misconceptions.

Questions 3, 6 and 9 (Problem Solving)

  1. It’s gone from step 2 to step 4 for the multiplication and division unit in year 3. Is there a step 3 yet or have I missed it somewhere?
