War Horse Chapter 17 Comprehension Whole Class Guided Reading

War Horse Chapter 17 Comprehension for Whole Class Guided Reading includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter seventeen of the popular novel by Michael Morpurgo. We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In this chapter, Joey is taken to the veterinary centre to have his wounds treated. In the back of the cart, he falls over and doesn't have the energy to get back up. When he arrives at the veterinary centre, he is helped out of the cart and taken by a young soldier to get cleaned up before the vet comes to check over him. As he is being cleaned, he recognises the voice of the young man helping him. When the young man's friend calls a familiar name, Joey can't believe he has found his Albert! Joey tries to make Albert realise it's him, but Albert does not realise. His friend comes to help him prepare Joey for the vet, and as they work Albert talks to his friend about his beloved Joey. Soon, his friend reveals the white cross on his face and Albert can't believe it. He walks away from Joey and then calls him with a whistle. Joey forgets the pain in his leg and trots to Albert's side. The two cannot believe they have found one another again!
