War Horse Chapter 21 Comprehension Whole Class Guided Reading

War Horse Chapter 21 Comprehension for Whole Class Guided Reading includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter twenty-one of the popular novel by Michael Morpurgo. In the final chapter, Albert is devastated to realise that Joey won't be coming home with him. He is unsure about  the old man who bid on Joey and doesn't understand what he meant by Joey belonging to his Emilie. The old man comes  to talk to Albert with the sergeant and the major, and explains that Joey came to stay with him and his granddaughter during the war. He also explains that Emilie had died so he was trying to find the two horses she had loved to remember her by. The old man has been told about Albert coming to France to find Joey and so he offers to sell Joey back to Albert on the condition that Albert keeps the memory of his granddaughter Emilie alive. Albert agrees and the story finishes with a short overview of Joey and Albert's life after they return from the war.
