Differentiation for Year 3 What is a Clause?:

Varied Fluency
Developing Questions to support identifying a noun or a verb; using capital letters and full stops and checking a sentence with one clause makes sense (e.g. Don’t forget the ticket).
Expected Questions to support identifying nouns or verbs; punctuating sentences and checking a sentence with two expanded clauses makes sense (e.g. The little boy took the big dog for a walk).
Greater Depth Questions to support identifying nouns or verbs; punctuating sentences and checking sentences with multiple clauses make sense. (e.g. The children jumped up and down on the spot until the teacher blew the whistle).

Application and Reasoning
Questions 1, 4 and 7 (Application)
Developing Identify and replace a noun and a verb in one short clause.
Expected Identify and replace one or two nouns and verbs in an expanded clause.
Greater Depth Identify and replace two or more nouns and verbs in multiple clauses.

Questions 2, 5 and 8 (Application)
Developing Select the most suitable noun or verb to complete one short clause.
Expected Select the most suitable noun or verb to complete an expanded clause.
Greater Depth Select the two most suitable nouns or verbs to complete an expanded clause.
