This Daughter of the Sun reading activity will help your children understand Year 5 reading comprehension text, it contains an extract from a moving fable of a mother and her young daughter who is blessed with the power of the sun, it contains an extract from a story set during World War II about a Jewish mother and sons hiding from persecution in Nazi Germany while planning their escape to England, along with a choice of questions covering eight reading content domains and questions for more in-depth written answer practice. We've also included some more in-depth questions for more detailed written answers.

National Curriculum Objectives:

  • English Year 5 & Year 6: Maintain positive attitudes to reading and understanding of what is read.
