# Area and Perimeter Lesson

This Year 6 Area and Perimeter lesson covers the prior learning of calculating the perimeter of rectilinear and the area of compound shapes, and using simple formulae, before moving onto the main skill of calculating area and perimeter.

The lesson starts with a prior learning worksheet to check pupils’ understanding. If they need more practice, you can choose other resources for the prior learning steps here, here and here. The interactive lesson slides recap the prior learning before moving on to the main skill. Children can then practise further by completing the activities and can extend their learning by completing an engaging extension task.

National Curriculum Objective

Mathematics Year 6: (6M7a) Recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa
