Our GPS assessments have proven to be very popular since first launching in 2018 so it felt like a good time to review these!

The Classroom Secrets GPS assessments provide you with five full assessments for your year group: baseline (for using at the start of the year to recap on objectives from the previous year group), autumn, spring, summer and end of year (which covers content from the entirety of the year, whereas the summer assessment covers content from the summer term only). These are fully mapped to our CS GPS scheme and follow the teaching content of these, giving you reassurance that all taught material will be covered.

What has been updated for 2026?

  • The baseline and end of year assessments now follow the same structure as the ‘main’ end-of-term assessments, with changes such as a cover sheet for children to complete, marks for each question listed and a separate mark scheme file.

  • A popular request was to include suggested levels in the baseline and end of year assessment – you asked, we listened! All assessments now give guidance for the standard of pupils based on their mark. Bear in mind that these are suggested levels and there are many other extraneous factors that must be taken into account when levelling pupils.

  • All five assessments in each year have been updated visually to be in line with our current style guidance, bringing the tests into 2026!

  • Content has been monitored and cross-referenced with our scheme, with some minor changes to bring the assessments precisely in line with teaching.

  • Sustainability has been considered, with the amount of paper needed for each test reduced where possible and the coloured bar on the right-hand side of each page within the assessments altered to reduce the amount of ink needed.

  • Tweaks have been made to the presentation so that these are entirely black and white, saving your photocopying budget!

  • All changes made are consistent across the assessments within and across year groups, giving your children familiarity with presentation and helping to reduce the ‘test dread’ that many children feel.

  • Each download contains three files: the assessment, the accompanying mark scheme and an assessment tracker Excel file. This has had a major overhaul to allow more robust data recording, providing you with a range of powerful tools at your fingertips within the spreadsheet once you input your class data and marks for each question. A video that explains the new assessment tracker can be viewed by subscribers here

These updated versions are available now on our website, just in time for you to use the spring assessment with your class! They can be accessed via the ‘test practice’ section of your year group in the resource menu or simply by searching via the search bar.

We hope that these prove even more useful for your data collection and assessment needs. We would love to hear your feedback, suggestions and ideas for how these could be improved even further – please submit these to hello@classroomsecrets.co.uk.
