Inspire curiosity, methodical thinking and investigative skills by using this Year 4 Make a Whole Discussion Problem as part of your lesson. This resource includes two in-depth making a whole with hundredths problem-solving questions for your class to flex their decimals' knowledge over!

These questions require a secure understanding of decimals, so it would be perfect to use at the end of your lesson. We would advise that the questions are tackled in pairs or small groups to encourage mathematical discussion that embed learning. Alternatively, you could display the questions on screen and allow the whole class to find the solutions. An example answer is included for children to compare their outcomes to, or use this to show children that there are multiple answers for the first question.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recognise and write decimal equivalents of any number of tenths or hundredths
  • Solve simple measure and money problems involving fractions and decimals to two decimal places
