## EYFS Composition of Numbers Provision Enhancement

This EYFS Composition of Numbers Provision Enhancement resource includes teaching information, an observation sheet for use with the resource and a variety of activities for enhancing provision in the classroom. The activities can be used to support independent or adult led play across 13 different areas of provision. Children will enjoy exploring and learning all about the Composition of Numbers.

3 and 4 year olds
(M-1) Develop fast recognition of up to 3 objects, without having to count them individually (‘subitising’).

(M-4) Know that the last number reached when counting a small set of objects tells you how many there are in total (‘cardinal principle’).

(M-6) Link numerals and amounts: for example, showing the right number of objects to match the numeral, up to 5.
Children in Reception
(M-23) Link the number symbol (numeral) with its cardinal number value.
(M-27) Explore the composition of numbers to 10.
(M-28) Automatically recall number bonds for numbers 0–10.
Early Learning Goal
- Have a deep understanding of number to 10, including the composition of each number.
- Subitise (recognise quantities without counting) up to 5.
- Automatically recall (without reference to rhymes, counting or other aids) number bonds up to 5 (including subtraction facts) and some number bonds to 10, including double facts.
