EYFS Development Matters Statement Links:
3 and 4 year olds
(M-1) Develop fast recognition of up to 3 objects, without having to count them individually (‘subitising’).
(M-3) Say one number for each item in order: 1,2,3,4,5.
(M-4) Know that the last number reached when counting a small set of objects tells you how many there are in total (‘cardinal principle’).
(M-6) Link numerals and amounts: for example, showing the right number of objects to match the numeral, up to 5.

(M-21) Count objects, actions and sounds.
(M-22) Subitise.
(M-23) Link the number symbol (numeral) with its cardinal number value.
Mathematics Year 1: (1C2b) Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
Mathematics Year 2: (2C6) Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers
Mathematics Year 3: (3C6) Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables
Mathematics Year 4: (4C6a) Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12
Mathematics Year 5: (5C5d) Recognise and use square numbers and cube numbers, and the notation for squared (2) and cubed (3)
Mathematics Year 6: (6C5) Identify common factors, common multiples and prime numbers
