Compare Mass Lesson

This Year 1 Compare Mass lesson covers the prior learning of using everyday language to describe weight, before moving onto the main skill of comparing mass.

The lesson starts with a prior learning worksheet to check pupils’ understanding. The interactive lesson slides recap the prior learning before moving on to the main skill. Children can then practise further by completing the activities and can extend their learning by completing an engaging extension task.

Mathematics Year 1: (1M1) Compare, describe and solve practical problems for:
lengths and heights [for example, long/short, longer/shorter, tall/short, double/half]mass/weight [for example, heavy/light, heavier than, lighter than]
capacity and volume [for example, full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter]
Time [for example, quicker, slower, earlier, later]

Mathematics Year 1: (1M2) Measure and begin to record: lengths and heights mass/weight capacity and volumetime (hours, minutes, seconds)
