Key Vocabulary
ones: Individual units that make up a whole number.
tens: A group of 10 ones together is the same as 1 ten.
Base 10: A physical resource which represents numbers. The small cubes represent ‘ones’; the rods represent ‘tens’ and are made up of 10 small cubes; the squares represent ‘hundreds’ and are made up of 10 rods.
related facts: Also known as fact families. A group of four calculations created using the same three numbers, for example 2 + 5 = 7, 5 + 2 = 7, 7 – 2 = 5, 7 – 5 = 2. This can also be used to identify related facts up to 100, for example 20 + 50 = 70.
