Decimals as Fractions 1 Lesson
This Year 5 Decimals as Fractions 1 lesson covers the prior learning of recognising the relationship between tenths as a fraction and as a decimal, and hundredths as a fraction and as a decimal, before moving onto the main skill of recognising the relationship between a range of fractions and decimals.
The lesson starts with a prior learning worksheet to check pupils’ understanding. The interactive lesson slides recap the prior learning before moving on to the main skill. Children can then practise further by completing the activities and can extend their learning by completing an engaging extension task.
National Curriculum Objective
Mathematics Year 5: (5F6a) Read and write decimal numbers as fractions [for example, 0.71 = 71/100]
Mathematics Year 5: (5F6b) Recognise and use thousandths and relate them to tenths, hundredths and decimal equivalents
Mathematics Year 5: (5F12) Solve problems which require knowing percentage and decimal equivalents of 1/2 , 1/4 , 1/5 , 2/5 , 4/5 and those fractions with a denominator of a multiple of 10 or 25
