Are you looking to explore two-step problems but need a quick recap of addition and subtraction methods? Then our Year 2 Two-Step Problems resource could be just what you are looking for. Using bar models, place value counters, digit cards and more, this resource is split into six different questions. Children will complete fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions before moving on to the main step of tackling two-step problems.


Curriculum Objectives

  • Add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero
  • Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
  • Solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7 = __ 9
  • Add and subtract numbers using concrete objects and pictorial representations, including: a two-digit number and ones; a two-digit number and tens; two two-digit numbers; adding three one-digit numbers
  • Solve problems with addition and subtraction using concrete objects and pictorial representations, including those involving numbers, quantities and measures; and by applying their increasing knowledge of mental and written methods
