Our engaging lessons, assessments and overviews cover each science unit and ensure that science knowledge is linked between year groups.
Science Overviews
Are you looking for a clear, yet concise plan for the teaching of each science unit? Our unit overviews will provide you with a brief overview of each lesson, the key knowledge included and the links to the National curriculum. You’ll see what children should already know from previous learning, as well as how the unit will link to subsequent year groups. We’ve also included common misconceptions, just in case you want to prepare ahead of time!
Science Lessons
Our science lessons have been carefully created to ensure you have everything you need in one place! You will start with a recap of previous learning, along with an introduction to new vocabulary. To spark children’s curiosity and engagement we’ve included exciting hooks and lots of opportunities for discussion using open-ended questions. Following the teaching of the key teaching points, our lessons conclude with a challenge question to really get brains ticking! We know how important it is to recognise science in real-life and that’s why we’ve also placed emphasis on using photographs and linking each lesson to a profession.
Science Investigation Lessons
Much like our science lessons, our investigation lessons are designed to have everything you need! They start with a recap of previous learning, along with an introduction to new vocabulary. Our use of ‘hooks’ will encourage discussion around the lesson content, before moving on the main investigation. Each investigation encourages children to ask and explore their own questions, as well as provide opportunity to make predictions, reflect on findings and present results. Much like our science lessons, we’ve included the key teaching points around the investigation and the chance to assess knowledge using our post lesson assessments. We, like our children, recognise science in real life, and that’s why you’ll see the use of photographs and links to professions!
Pre and Post-Unit Assessments
We recognise the importance of linking knowledge between year groups in order avoid gaps or even teaching key knowledge twice. That’s why we’ve created our pre and post-unit assessments! Each assessment includes a variety of question styles with opportunities for children to explain their thinking. We’ve included misconceptions within our multiple-choice questions, giving you the reassurance that children have fully understood concepts are ready to move on. Worried about having to print countless sheets for each pupil? Don’t be! School budgets and sustainability are always on our mind - most of our assessments fit on one page!
