Develop children's phonics and word building skills with these EYFS Winter Literacy Activities.

This resource features a range of worksheets including circling the initial sound, writing the initial sound, writing the whole word and writing captions for theme related pictures. It's a great way to explore everything relating to winter whilst developing letter formation too.

SEN Support Strategies
These simple approaches can help you tailor activities for children with additional needs:

  • Pre-teach vocabulary: Introduce key words from the resource (e.g., hat, wind, fog, tree, snow, path) using picture cards or real objects. This supports children with language delays.

  • Chunk instructions: Break tasks into smaller steps with modelling (e.g., “First say the sound… now write it… now check it”). This helps children with attention or processing difficulties.

  • Adult scribe: During caption writing, scribe while the child verbalises ideas. This allows them to focus on language and thinking separately from the physical act of writing, supporting those with fine motor or transcription challenges.
