Are you looking for a selection of lively fiction and non-fiction texts for your pupils? Then this Year 2 Reading Skills – Exercise and Your Heart guided reading pack might be just what you are looking for.

Perfect to use on World Heart Day (29th September), and with two fiction and two non-fiction texts all based on the theme of exercise and the heart, this pack will entertain and educate.

Comprehension questions cover each reading domain in turn and are presented in two ways so you can decide whether you want to look at one or two domains in particular or each one of them in turn.

In addition to questions for each reading domain, there is also a section which focuses on practising written answers. This is designed to help children become familiar and confident answering the kinds of questions they could face on an assessment paper.

Answers to all questions are provided to make life easier for you.

National Curriculum Objectives:

  • English Year 2: Understand both the books that they can already read accurately and fluently and those that they listen to by answering and asking questions; making inferences on the basis of what is being said and done; and predicting what might happen on the basis of what has been read so far.

  • English Year 2: Develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by discussing and clarifying the meanings of words, linking new meanings to known vocabulary.
