This Year 2 Temperature challenge is one of our fabled discussion problems - created to help children really get to grips with more challenging problem-solving tasks while simultaneously using systematic thinking and mathematical language. It can be completed alone, but we think it works better in pairs or small groups, where children discuss the best strategies need to get to the bottom of the problem. What's more, you'll have a classroom full of maths talk. Sounds great, right?

- Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels
