This Year 2 Write Numbers to 100 in Expanded Form Teaching PPT builds on children’s existing understanding of standard and flexible partitioning. Children will revisit how numbers like 49 can be partitioned into tens and ones, recognising that 49 is made up of 4 tens and 9 ones, or 40 and 9. They will then learn how to record this using number sentences, such as 49 = 40 + 9.
The content is organised into Let’s Learn sections, where key concepts and vocabulary are clearly modelled, and Let’s Practise sections, where pupils can apply their learning through short, engaging activities.
To deepen understanding, the PPT includes reasoning and problem-solving questions, encouraging children to explain their thinking and apply their knowledge in a range of contexts.
The final slide provides links to additional resources to support this step – be sure to check them out!
