This Year 4 Consolidating Apostrophes Teaching PPT gives you the opportunity to revisit apostrophes with your class.
The presentation explains step-by-step how apostrophes are used to denote possession with singular and plural nouns. Special attention is given to the fact that possessive pronouns such as its, his and hers do not require an apostrophe. Although the use of apostrophes to make contractions is mentioned, it is not the main focus of this presentation.
At the end of the presentation, two modelled examples of application and reasoning questions are provided, along with the answers. A separate modelling PowerPoint to enable you to review a range of question types with your pupils is available for this small step.
Use this PowerPoint to help children develop confidence before completing the follow-up resources we have for this step.
