Our Year 4 Count Squares resource is differentiated three ways and provides an excellent way of supporting children with their area and fluency skills. This activity allows children, of different abilities, the chance to practise the main skill of counting squares before moving on to area. Each differentiated resource includes eight questions with suitable scaffolding. Alongside challenging questions, we've included the answer sheet so the hard work is done for you.

Developing: Questions to support finding the area of squares and rectangles by counting squares.

Expected: Questions to support finding the area of rectilinear shapes with up to 6 sides, by counting squares on a grid.

Greater Depth: Questions to support finding the area of rectilinear shapes with up to 8 sides, by counting squares on a grid. Includes whole squares and half squares.
