This Year 4 Fractions Mistake Investigators resource includes a range of reasoning and problem-solving style questions that are similar to questions children could encounter in assessments. The questions are designed to be answered in groups to promote discussion and development of reasoning skills.

The questions cover four fraction objectives for Year 4 to test children's application of formal methods to answer questions: counting up and down in hundredths, with understanding that dividing by 100 or 10 can lead to hundredths; recognising families of common equivalent fractions; adding or subtracting fractions with the same denominator, and; solving problems using fractions.

If you're looking for something that will help your children develop their skills and help them to become more investigative learners, you're in the right place.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Count up and down in hundredths; recognise that hundredths arise when dividing an object by one hundred and dividing tenths by ten
  • Recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions
  • Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator
  • Solve problems involving increasingly harder fractions to calculate quantities, and fractions to divide quantities, including non-unit fractions where the answer is a whole number
