Use this Year 4 How Do We Hear Sounds? Investigation Lesson resource to introduce your class to the way in which sounds are turned into signals that we can hear.
The lesson begins with two review questions which take children back to what they have learned about this topic in previous years and in the last lesson. Then the 'hook' sparks their curiosity by asking what the smallest bone in the body is.
The teaching slides present new knowledge in clear stages and then there are three varied tasks to engage children's interest. Teachers can choose one or more of these to ensure that their pupils understand how the ears work and how a scientist might work to investigate this mechanism. Following the final task, they present their findings using a pictogram.
The occupational slide at the end of the lesson gives children the opportunity to learn about what an audiologist does. Finally, there are suggestions for additional tasks to deepen learning or tasks to do at home.
