This Year 4 Subtract Two Fractions (from a Whole) Reasoning and Problem Solving resource will give your pupils the chance to apply their knowledge of taking away fractions from a whole number. Whole numbers are expressed as improper fractions to ensure that children have a starting point for their calculations.
The first problem solving question provides a fraction diagram to support pupils to find various answers, whilst the second reasoning question supports their thinking with a number line. In the third problem solving question, they progress to finding various answers without the support of a representation.
