Encourage children to be curious in applying their knowledge of decimals to our Year 5 Adding Decimals - Crossing the Whole Discussion Problem. This resource includes two open-ended questions for children to get their teeth stuck into and explore their understanding of adding decimals. We'd recommend that children have a secure understanding of the objectives covered before tackling this resource. They can do this by working their way through the accompanying resources in this lesson.

Use this worksheet in class at the end of your lesson as a paired or small group task. It could also be used as a challenge intervention group activity, or for competent learners, a great homework task. We've included an example answer for children to compare theirs to, or use it as a way of encouraging children to explore their knowledge to find another solution.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Solve problems involving number up to three decimal places
  • Use all four operations to solve problems involving measure [for example, money] using decimal notation, including scaling
