Encourage children to apply their reasoning and problem solving skills to their work on fractions by downloading this Year 5 Convert Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers worksheet. We've created two types of reasoning questions and one type of problem solving question per worksheet and included two of each type to allow children to put their knowledge to the test. We've used a range of different representations and some real life contexts to support children with their independent learning.
This resource has been differentiated three ways. Below you will find a brief outline as to how we have differentiated for each level of challenge:
Developing: Questions involve halves, thirds, quarters, fifths and tenths. Includes pictorial representations.
Expected: Questions involve fractions up to twelfths. Includes pictorial representations.
Greater Depth: Questions involve fractions up to twelfths with some incomplete pictorial representations or additional parameters to consider.
Use this resource as part of your main teaching sequence as an independent task following a set of varied fluency questions. Alternatively, this resource could be used in a small group situation to encourage children's mathematical thinking and use of language to reason and justify answers. A clear and concise answer sheet has been included to speed up marking too.
