Finding fractions of an amount is such a useful skill (even if some kids ascertain that it's not) so it is important they are prepared for this Year 5 Fractions of an Amount step. By recapping the skills taught in the previous fractions of a quantity step, children will be reminded of the key skills required to find the fractions of an amount. The resource is made up of three varied fluency questions and three reasoning and problem-solving questions and an answer sheet is provided to save time marking.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions
  • Solve problems involving increasingly harder fractions to calculate quantities, and fractions to divide quantities, including non-unit fractions where the answer is a whole number
