Continue the Year 5 unit on 'living things and their habitats' with lesson two, which focuses on how different plants reproduce depending on whether they are sexual or asexual, building on the previous lesson about plant life cycles.
In this Year 5 PowerPoint, pupils will learn about sexual and asexual reproduction in plants, then focus on how plants clone and what offspring could look like. For their investigation, children will grow baby spider plants (also known as spiderettes) from a spider plant cutting and grow them over a period of several weeks, monitoring and recording changes. They will write about what they notice. As this is designed to be returned to in a subsequent lesson, there is an activity about plant reproduction to complete in the remainder of your Science lesson.
