This Year 5 Multi-Step Addition and Subtraction Problems Discussion Problem is a great way to get children using their reasoning and problem-solving skills when dealing with multi-step addition and subtraction problems where only one exchange is needed. Our discussion problems are designed to get children talking about their methods of working out and the answers they arrive at. This helps them to develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills and find the most efficient methods of calculation.

We have also included an answer page that provides an example answer for each of question, but other answers are possible. We suggest letting your children mark their own work to encourage more discussion and self-correction.
