National Curriculum Objectives 
English Y5/6: Brackets, dashes or commas to indicate parenthesis
English Y5/6: Use of the semi-colon, colon and dash to mark the boundary between independent clauses [for example, It’s raining; I’m fed up]

Differentiation:

Beginner Add parenthesis (simple explanation) using one dash. Three options to choose from. Aimed at Year 5 Developing.

Easy Add parenthesis using a pair of dashes. Five options to choose from. Aimed at Year 5 Secure/Year 6 Emerging.

Tricky Join two independent clauses using one dash. Four options to choose from. Aimed at Year 6 Developing.
