Give your children the opportunity to put their skills involving reading into practice with this Year 2 Diary reading comprehension.

This resource contains a diary about National Walking Month and how one child embraced walking. As well as being a diary, this resource is also a great reading comprehension activity that includes a wide range of questions covering all eight reading content domains to help your children develop, improve and practice their reading skills.

With our reading skills resources, you have the flexibility to decide how to use the text and the questions: you can give the whole text and all of the questions, target questions for specific domains, or go page by page using only questions that are related to that part of the text. We've also included a time-saving answer matrix to make marking easier and for making self or peer marking more accessible.

National Curriculum Objectives:

  • English Year 2: Understand both the books that they can already read accurately and fluently and those that they listen to by answering and asking questions; making inferences on the basis of what is being said and done; and predicting what might happen on the basis of what has been read so far.
  • English Year 2: Develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by discussing and clarifying the meanings of words, linking new meanings to known vocabulary.
