1.Help Sebastian find the total number of nuts.
Discuss adding the two numbers and exchanging 10 ten bags for 1 hundred bag.

2.Help him choose the correct total.
Discuss which 4-digit number is the total of the two numbers added together.
3.Help Sebastian work out the correct stones to step on to make the total written at the other side.
Discuss best way to find the missing number and then how to make the number using the stepping stones.

4.Catch some butterflies and put them in the right jars to complete the calculation.
Discuss the different butterflies with digits that can be positioned in the four columns to make the sum work and for the sum to have an exchange. This question is open-ended for the children to explore.

Optional discussion points:
Change the digits for the two boxes of peanuts so that the exchange happens in a different column.
