Poem Teamwork Transition Activity Pack for KS1 and KS2 learners

Transition Activity Pack for KS1 and KS2 in three differentiated levels to promote teamwork and collaboration within small groups focusing on a rhyming couplets poem.

We recommend these activities are used with mixed ability groups.  They are designed to promote British Values by encouraging each group to discuss ideas, support each other and to be tolerant and respectful of the views and opinions of others.

The task is based on a transition poem of rhyming couplets, which the children must, through discussion, rearrange in the order they think is correct.  They must then explain their reasons for this order. Through further discussion about the year gone by and the year to come, each group will write their own rhyming couplets to read aloud to the class.

This pack includes:

National Curriculum Objectives

English Year 1: Develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by learning to appreciate rhymes and poems, and to recite some by heart.
English Year 2: Develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by continuing to build up a repertoire of poems learnt by heart, appreciating these and reciting some, with appropriate intonation to make the meaning clear.

Differentiation:

Beginner Six rhyming couplets to order. Word bank provided to help them find rhyming words.  Structure is provided to support the writing of two rhyming couplets. Aimed at all abilities in Year 1 and Year 2.

Easy Year 3 & Year 4 Seven rhyming couplets to order. Four sets of synonyms to order in terms of strength of meaning. Structure is provided to support the writing of four rhyming couplets. Aimed at all abilities in Year 3 and Year 4.

Tricky Year 5 & Year 6 Nine rhyming couplets to order. Five sets of synonyms to order in terms of strength of meaning. No structure provided to write six rhyming couplets. Aimed at all abilities in Year 5 and Year 6.
