Looking for a different type of Christmas activity for your class? Then look no further! This EYFS - Year 6 Christmas Inference Activity has been differentiated four ways. Each level has a large version of an image, a smaller version of the image with differentiated inference questions around it for children to write on and a sheet with suggested answers. It is designed to develop inference skills and allow children to think about working cooperatively. ELG for Communication and Language: Listening, Attention and Understanding

  • Listen attentively and respond to what they hear, with relevant questions, comments and actions when being read to and during whole class discussions and small group interactions
  • Make comments about what they have heard and ask questions to clarify their understanding
  • Hold conversation when engaged in back-and-forth exchanges with their teachers and peers

National Curriculum Objectives:

  • English Year 1 and Year 2: Understand both the books they can already read accurately and fluently and those they listen to by making inferences on the basis of what is being said and done
  • English Year 3 and Year 4: Understand what they read, in books they can read independently, by drawing inferences such as infering characters' feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions and justifying inferences with evidence
  • English Year 5 and Year 6: Understand what they read by drawing inferences such as characters' feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions and justifying inferences with evidence
