National Curriculum Objective

Year 2 English: (2G5.5) Commas to separate items in a list

English Year 3 and Year 4: Use brackets, dashes or commas to indicate parenthesis

Year 3 and 4 English: (4G5.6b) Using commas after fronted adverbials

Differentiation:

Beginner One box to be ticked with commas in lists. Aimed at Year 2 Secure/Year 3 Emerging.

Easy One box to be ticked with commas in lists or after a single adverb. Aimed at Year 3 Secure/Year 4 Emerging.

Tricky One or two boxes to be ticked with commas in lists, after a single adverb or around a drop-in clause. Aimed at Year 4 Developing.

Expert One or two boxes to be ticked with commas in lists, after a single adverb or around a drop-in clause - some sentences may include more than one type of comma. Aimed at Year 4 Secure.
