This EYFS Subitising Is It 1 2 or 3? Learning Activity enables children to practise the skill of subitising. Children are required to look at the images, state what they think the total amount is and either circle the corresponding numeral or record the numeral in the box given. Each page could be cut into different cards and placed within continuous provision for children to access independently.

It covers the following objectives for children in reception:

(M-22) Subitise.

(M-23) Link the number symbol (numeral) with its cardinal number value.


Curriculum Objectives

  • Have a deep understanding of number to 10, including the composition of each number
  • Subitise (recognise quantities without counting) up to 5
  • Automatically recall (without reference to rhymes, counting or other aids) number bonds up to 5 (including subtraction facts) and some number bonds to 10, including double facts
