This Key Stage 1 Rise and Read Charles Dickens resource includes four reading activities focused on who Charles Dickens was, what he did and what someone thinks about him today. It is suitable for use in Years 1 and 2 and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading or RE lessons or even as a stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about the world around them.
The pack includes an information text, a diary entry, an image and a letter. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, summary, vocabulary, inference and prediction. There is also an assessment style question which focuses on writing an answer to an inference question.
This resource does not require any printing as it has been specially designed to be displayed on the whiteboard.
