Explore different styles of poetry and their features with this KS2 Autumn Poetry Comparison Guided Reading Pack. Pupils will read two autumn-themed poems, identifying examples of similes, metaphors, alliteration and personification. Pupils will also be required to choose their preferred poem and provide a short summary of each.

National Curriculum Objectives:

Maintain positive attitudes to reading and understanding of what they read by:

- continuing to read and discuss an increasingly wide range of fiction, poetry, plays, non-fiction and reference books or textbooks;

- learning a wider range of poetry by heart.

Understand what they read by:

- identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning;

- discussing and evaluating how authors use language, including figurative language, considering the impact on the reader;

- distinguishing between statements of fact and opinion;

- participating in discussions about books that are read to them and those they can read for themselves, building on their own and others' ideas and challenging views courteously;

- providing reasoned justifications for their views.

- Formation of adjectives using suffixes such as –ful, –less.

- Use of the suffixes –er, –est in adjectives and the use of –ly in Standard English to turn adjectives into adverbs.
