This KS2 War Horse Chapter 14 Whole Class Guided Reading Pack includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter fourteen of the popular novel by Michael Morpurgo. We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6.
In this chapter, Friedrich takes Joey and Topthorn to rest in the shade of a chestnut wood where other soldiers and horses are also resting. On the way up, Topthorn falls to his knees and Joey watches him fall onto his side. Joey realises that Topthorn has passed away and a vet confirms it. Just as the soldiers gather round to pay their respects, the enemy creep up and begin shelling them. Joey cannot bear to leave his friend but Friedrich tries to pull him to safety. Friedrich is struck down by a shell and he also dies.
This pack contains colour-coded questions to ensure clear differentiation, as well as differentiated challenge tasks focussed upon adjectives, conjunctions, suboridnate clauses and past perfect tense/past continuous tense.
